Hier ein spannendes Kommentar von velobase user koldfushen zum Thema "Fremdproduktion":
"Kudos for all the wonderful catalog scans. Now for the inconvenient truth part:
Gipiemme was NEVER started by ex-Campy people. Gipiemme is an independant spin-off of Tecno-Ciclio (maker of frame drop-outs, braze-ons, etc.).
Gipiemme was NEVER a contractor for Campy; just the OTHER way around: Campy made derailleurs and shifters for Gipiemme! Who started this unsubstantiated bogusness?!
I will agree that trying to follow Gipiemme's offereing s over the years is circuitous at best, but when I read speculation after repeated speculation of CampythisforGipiemmethat when GPM catalogs even provide direct evidence to the contrary.
How many of their components did GPM actually manufacture themselves? I do not know the exact answer to that, but this I do know without uncertainty:
Chains/freewheels made by Everest
Derailluers/shifters made by Simplex, Gian Robert, Campagnolo, others and possibly GPM themselves
Brakes made by Modolo, Campagnolo (brake-pads), others and apparently by GPM themselves
Handlebars/Stems by 3TTT
Seatposts by 3TTT and apparently GPM themselves
Headsets by Roto and apparently GPM themselves
Hubs apparently GPM themselves
Cranksets/BBs apparently GPM themselves (very original design features)
Pedals apprently GPM themselves (very original design features)
Drop-outs and braze-ons by Tecno-Ciclio and apparently GPM themselves
Toeclips/toestraps by Ale and apparently GPM themselves
And yes, 1970s-1980s GPM catalogs have the look and feel of Campy catalogs from that same era. In my observations, note my observations--thats all, I find that when designs that are generally attributed to GPM (i.e., crono-special cranks, brake calipers, seatposts) are compared to their Campy counterparts (Super/Nuovo Record), the GPM are slightly "over engineered": thicker metal, beefier fittings. This may/may not be good as it usually results in a heavier item even if it is slightly stronger.
Also note that vintage GPM was spec'd as OEM on deRosa, Colnago, Bianchi, Legnano, Frejus, Mirella, Faggin, Razesa (Spanish), just to name a few. However, I have only seen top end crono-special derailluers and braksets on Faggin and Razesa. These were never spec'd on any American bike.....not even Torelli, even though Chairman Bob did spec lower end GPM on some of his bikes.
Lastly, on a different brand, Ofmega. Ofmega was the new name for the old GNUTTI. GNUTTI WAS a contract manufacturer for Campy and FB hubsets. Lets stop the wild speculation once and for all. Thanks."
